Unlawful access to devices, systems, data, applications, accounts or others without obtaining official permission from the owner or the competent authorities. Hacking is a violation of the rights to privacy, data protection and private property. It can be carried out for many reasons such as theft, extortion, revenge, tracking activists or others. Hacking may be carried out by amateurs, organized groups or official parties. An example of this is the use of the Israeli "Pegasus" spyware to hack the phones of political opponents and journalists around the world.
